Document reveals the Brotherhood’s relationship with Freemasonry

Historical relationship brought the Muslim Brotherhood together with Freemasonry.

Although reality is the best evidence of the depth of the Muslim Brotherhood’s labour, and the horror of their terrorism, history, in its public and secret pages, has always revealed the Brotherhood’s malice and subversive intentions.

Muslim Brotherhood

The Wilson Center website, a digital archive of declassified international history documents, uncovered a handwritten document called “An Untitled Report on Freemasonry and Muslim Brotherhood,” written on 12 May 1949, which would shed new light on the historical relationship that brought together the Brotherhood together with the Freemasonry in the Arab Mashreq.

In examining the published document, an exchange letter appears between two unknown Masons, and the sender indicates that Sheikh Ahmed Youssef Hamoud, a well-known brotherhood member in Lebanon, died in 1998. Upon checking the document, it is noted that Sheikh Hammoud was a Masonic and at the same time a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Hamoud called in the document, Antoine Catafago, who is known in the document as “the president of the Nour Lebanon Forum of the Syrian-Lebanese Grand Forum” to introduce large numbers of Brotherhood members in the Levant to the Masonic Forum, promising him that the Brotherhood would increase the forum’s influence and raise its financial revenues if accepted. However, the President of the forum, Catafago, rejected Sheikh Hamoud’s request categorically, and even decided to prevent him to pursue his activities.

Antoine Catafago justified his firm stance by refusing to fear that the Muslim Brotherhood would exploit the Masonic Forum for the purposes of political propaganda of the terrorist group in Beirut, and in his conversation with the author, he stressed his fear that the entry of the Brotherhood into the Forum would lead the members of the Forum to the outlaw acts for which the terrorist group was known.

It seems that Catafago was conscious of the chaos of the Muslim brotherhood in Egypt during that period and the acts of terrorism and destruction of public and private properties that took place at that time, as well as the many assassinations that were taking place there, at the hands of and for the benefit of members of the terrorist group.

“I learned from Antoine Catafago, head of the Nour Libnan (Light of Lebanon) Lodge, which is part of the Greater Syrian-Lebanese Lodge, that Sheikh Ahmad Yousef Hamoud who, as I mentioned in a previous report, is a Freemason and member of this Lodge, suggested that he invite a large number of Muslim Brothers to join his Lodge, because once they join and assume leading position, its influence will be strengthened and its revenues will increase; but that he refused.

Antoine Catafago explained to me his theory thus: ‘The objective behind Ahmad Hamoud’s proposal is to use Freemasonry for political aims, namely to further the interests of the Muslim Brothers. He, however, wants us to believe that his actions towards this end are illegal and could lead to chaos, as has happened in Egypt. This is why I rejected his proposal and decided to create obstacles to prevent him – i.e., Sheikh Ahmad Hamoud- from attending our Lodge’s sessions.”
